Water sports in Greece

Water ski was born in the good old USA. When a group of young people enjoying themselves with the water of a lake in the USA. The fashion of the sport spread quickly the stronger the boat engine became the more the speed the difficulty and the popularity of the sport grew. The first club in Greece to find water ski is the Vouliagmene Nautical Club (Attica). This club was founded in 1957 and in 1963. The Hellenic the water ski foundation was formed in order to spread this fun sport all over the country. Nowadays water ski is the most popular modern water sport and no special training is needed when done by amateurs for fun. All over Greece you will find private schools which operate at organized beaches or at facilities at big hotels.

Sailing- It’s a sport that’s connected with the Greek people throughout the country’s long history and centuries of nautical traditions. This is a most popular sport among Greeks. Thousands of Greeks practice it systematically (in competitions or as a simple sport) using all types of sailing boats. Sailing is a perfect getaway to combine it in your vacation plans it will be an unforgettable experience.

Windsurfing – Every adventure seeker enjoys wind surfing. Windsurfing is an Olympic sport and since 1985 it has turned into a professional sport as well as a demonstration and competition sport in indoor areas, where the necessary conditions are artificially created. The weather conditions in Greece are ideal for this sport and it’s spreading more and more Greeks are practicing systematically. In recent years European and world tournaments and most important international events are held in various parts of Greece. Diving Tourism – The mystical sea world of Greece is must for any vacationer. Greece’s emerald crystal clear waters and rich deep sea are an attraction for those wishing to explore the magical Greek seas. Diving using only a mask is allowed everywhere but scuba diving using compressed air tanks is forbidden in areas with underwater antiquities. In Greece you will find amplitude of diving schools that operate under special licenses of the Greek Ministry of Mercantile Marine.
